In a separate conversation I made a throw-away comment about Web 2.0 & shipping culture: “one thing that I think is genuinely and fabulously different is this: there are several TV shows in particular where the staff/writers/showrunners engage seriously and thoughtfully with the fans.” The more I think about it, this is the big takeaway. The fluency with which the people making the show engage with the concepts and discourse of the fans is extraordinary. (“Do you hate Bellarke* shippers?” “Of course not. We made Bellarke.” *Bellamy+Clarke.) For a quick how-things-have-changed moment I refer you to last night’s re-tweet, by The 100 writers’s twitter account, of a comment by William Shatner (!!) echoing the last line of the episode.
